Stress…

the state of mind when the mind over-rides the body’s basic desire to choke the living crap out of someone who desparately needs it.

Anyway, enough about my day.

Some of you may have noticed the site going up and down lately.

if you’d like, you can blame the nice folks at Comcast Communications, whose “business” DSL is not quite ready for prime time.

After my fourth call to them in a week this morning, a nice sounding young man GUARANTEED ME that the problem with my router was fixed and that I wouldn’t be having any more problems.

LOL – have you ever heard of someone in technical support making that kind of guarantee?

Nope – neither have I.

Ahh that explains it. I’d just assumed that you were running your site on EMC storage 😉

  1. Very funny. 🙂 Nah, seems to be this damned SMC Router that Comcast provided me. Unfortunately, it’s the only router they have that works with multiple static IP’s.

Interestingly enough, it seems that it’s long drawn-out transfers over the lan ports that’s causing it to go south, so when I try to download my Law&Order iTunes subscription, it kills it.

(Last night it died because I was trying to run backups across it, another bad idea.)

I told you! Get a buffalo router and put dd-wrt on it!

  2. I’m going to look into that, because this will never do. The LAN-side ports are dying whenever any long, drawn-out transfer is happening. Usuallly either downloading episodes of Law & Order from iTunes, or (as was the case last night) when the backup of my workstation ran.

I’ll see if it is fixed tonight. Thank you all for being patient with me.
