Consulting woes….

Where is the difference between providing a “value-add” service and just being abused?  Last week I had a request that I be on-site over the weekend for some failover activities.

What they left out of the request for extra time was:

A> These failover activities were not related to the migration I was contracted for.

B> These failover activities were a very simple procedure that they’ve done dozens of times.

C> I was being asked to come in for a weekend so that their SAN admin (who gets to go home every night) could go to a football game in Ohio.  (Where it’s rumored that they *DO* have internet access)

LOL – Um, as much as I’d like to, I’ve got kids who are convinced that I don’t actually LIVE here, I just come to visit once in a while.

To all the customers out there.  I know you pay extra for consultants.  Just remember that like your employees, if you abuse us, we have the option of saying *NO* – luckily there isn’t a shortage of work out there despite the economy.

P.S. If you’re in the US, don’t forget to vote on Tuesday if you haven’t already.  If you’re out of the US, don’t forget to point and laugh if we manage to screw up this democracy thing again. 😉
